Evolution of SEO
As we see before, when google releases SEO starter guide webmasters started practicing it. They tried to list their websites in more search results and achieved more visits and organic traffic. But when these practices became extreme, Google was unable to accept their practices.
At first, Google was Content specific. That is when search engine is content specific the maximum number of time keywords occurs has the chance of getting high ranked. This is called Keyword Stuffing and it is a Black hat SEO technique where we stuff keywords in website to get ranked. Then webmasters tried to use more keywords in their sites to be ranked. But they lack quality, information etc.
So google changed their algorithm and became Link Specific. That is if we get hyperlink from other website Google consider that hyperlink as recommendation. On the basis of links received from other website the webpages got Ranked. Then the webmasters tried to includes their links on other websites to be high ranked. Later this made many websites to sell the links.
Then Google adopted a new technique called Quality Link Specific. That is google introduced a Page rank to rate the websites with respect to their quality. The link from website having page rank will only be considered to be ranked. Google introduced passing the juice and later an attribute called no follow. Passing of juice means when the page provide link to other website the equity of the page get decreased. "Rel=no follow" means equity is not passed through links.
Changes in 2009-10
In 2010,
Google introduced Social Media Signal Update. Here the blogs maintained in a
website is shared in social Media, when they will have an increase in their
ranking. Now, the webmasters started to depend on social media. When the articles being shared increases, the
number of interaction a post receive also increases. Ranking can also be
increased when an influential personality(the one who have more followers and
likes) interact or like the blog.
